The SkyRoof "Alpaca" version utilizes the exact same application as the conventional Serial Port version does.

The key difference is that with the 'Alpaca: version, a Windows™ driver file is no longer needed.

The SkyRoof 'Alpaca' controller is an Ethernet 'REST Server' that already contains a library of all of the ASCOM Dome methods and properties embedded within the firmware.


What does this mean?


 It means that with the SkyRoof 'Alpaca' system, you are no longer tied to Windows™ or the ASCOM platform.

 Any device that has an Internet browser can contact and operate the dome shutter or roll-off roof.

Apps for the Apple Mac and Raspberry Pi are currently under development, while operation under the Windows environment is already fully supported.

Because of the nature of the SkyRoof controller, multiple computers on the same LAN can control the observatory shutter (or roll-off roof) .
